TÜV Süd – EE01

TÜV SÜD – EE01 is an eco-label designed to promote the generation of electricity from renewable energy sources. This certification is awarded by the German body, TÜV Süd.

It sets strict criteria for supplying end consumers with electricity from renewable origins, including regional sourcing and carbon offsetting. This comprehensive approach ensures that certified electrical products not only meet fundamental requirements but also offer additional sustainability benefits.

TÜV SÜD-EE01 features

To be TÜV SÜD – EE01 certified, an electricity product must contribute tangible support to the renewable energy sector. Electricity suppliers looking to certify their products have three options:
Option 1: Request recent renewable production capacities

At least 30% of the energy delivered in contracts for renewable energy must come from new production installations, as defined in the “Generation EEnew” module of the TÜV SÜD standard.

By soliciting recently commissioned production capacities, this first option ensures the exploitation of newly developed energy potential.

Option 2: Contribute to a support fund
Certificate holders must contribute at least 0.2 euro cents per kWh of renewable electricity to a support fund. This rate remains unchanged for the first three years following initial certification (version 01/2015), thereby continuously supporting the development of sustainable energies.
Option 3: Diversify the technological mix

The TÜV SÜD – EE01 ecolabel encourages suppliers to diversify their technological mix. To this end, they must respect a minimum distribution of different energy sources from the first year of accounting. This includes:

Hydroelectric (less than 2 MW): 10%
Wind: 7.5%
Solar, geothermal, biomass: 5%
Biogas/biomethane: 3%

All installations commissioned after January 1, 2000, are eligible, making it easier to achieve a balanced technological mix.
