OK Power is a German ecolabel established in 2000 and specifically dedicated to renewable electricity. It imposes strict certification criteria to protect consumers and the environment, ensuring complete transparency in the energy market.

EnergyVision e.V., a non-profit organization, is responsible for awarding the OK Power certification. To further enhance transparency, the organization also offers an electricity offer comparison tool for consumers to guide them in choosing the electricity they use.

OK Power certification criteria

Certified OK Power renewable electricity offers must meet mandatory and optional certification criteria.

Mandatory criteria

Providers seeking OK Power certification must fulfill a range of mandatory criteria:

  • 100% renewable electricity
    The electricity in the offered plans must be sourced entirely from renewable sources (wind, solar, hydro, biomass, geothermal) and meet environmental standards.
  • No fossil or nuclear energy involvement
    Providers aspiring for OK Power certification must not be associated with nuclear power plants, lignite power stations, or new coal power facilities.
  • Control and monitoring
    The provider agrees to be audited and monitored by an independent third-party expert.
  • Environmental impact minimization
    Providers commit to working with electricity producers who minimize the environmental impact of their production facilities.
  • Transparency and ethics
    The provider pledges to demonstrate complete transparency to its consumers.

Optional Criteria

To achieve OK Power certification, electricity providers may go further and fulfill optional criteria that bolster renewable energies:

  • Supporting energy transition
    The provider can support and contribute to innovative projects that expedite the energy transition or incorporate renewable energies into the supply system – beyond public funding.
  • Investment and innovation
    OK Power acknowledges the provider’s innovative actions and efforts to increasingly integrate renewable energies into the energy landscape.
  • Promoting energy efficiency
    The ecolabel appreciates measures aimed at improving energy efficiency and promoting the reduction of energy consumption.
